Stewart J. Schwab Portrait

Stewart Schwab has used his advanced training in economics to inform his scholarship and teaching in the field of labor and employment law as well as tort, contract, and corporate law. After obtaining both a J.D. and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Michigan, he clerked for the Hon. J. Dickson Phillips of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and then for Justice Sandra Day O’Connor of the U.S. Supreme Court. He joined the Cornell Law School faculty in 1983, and has been Dean since 2004. The author of numerous articles as well as Employment Law: Cases and Materials (4th ed. 2007) and Foundations of Labor and Employment Law (2000), Schwab currently serves as a Reporter for the American Law Institute Restatement of Employment Law.
