Joanne Hill Portrait

Dr. Joanne M. Hill serves as Head of Investment Strategy at the ProFunds Group, the world’s largest manager of short and leveraged mutual funds, including ProShares exchange-traded funds that span global markets and asset classes. Her responsibilities include portfolio strategy research and marketing. Joanne retired from Goldman Sachs as a Managing Director in February where she spent 17 years leading global equity derivatives strategy, focusing on institutional applications of ETFs, futures, options, swaps, and index portfolio trading. Her responsibilities for Goldman also included serving as a relationship manager to endowments, foundations and pension funds.

Prior to coming to Wall Street, she was on the finance faculty of the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and was a research analyst at the Federal Reserve Board. She received a Ph.D. in finance from Syracuse University, an M.A. in international affairs from George Washington University, and an undergraduate degree in International Service from American University. Ms. Hill has published extensively, with recent articles in the Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Portfolio Management, and Journal of Trading. She serves on the board and heads the research committee for the “Q” Group and is on the editorial board of the Financial Analysts Journal and Journal of Indexing. She has been honored as a recipient of the William F. Sharpe Indexing Lifetime Achievement Award, top rankings for her Goldman team in industry research surveys, and alumni of the year from the School of Management at Syracuse University.
